Who is Zombie Walk : San Diego?

Saturday, August 31st, 2019

[Some coding issues ate some of the pages on the site and when I have time… that’ll get fixed. Until then, here’s the “About” section of the page, transferred to a temporary holding place…]

Our first walk, on June 30, 2007, in Balboa Park was a total undead success, with over 120 zombies shuffling their way down El Prado. The second walk took place at Comic-Con, in 2007, where the zombie horde infiltrated thousands of the living and had sightings of George Romero, Brian Posehn, and many others along the route. We also made the San Diego Union-Tribune front page!

From 2007-2019, ZW:SD held dozens of walks and other events throughout America’s Finest City; with several benefiting the San Diego Food Bank, Toys for Tots, local military families, and local unhoused families.  We participated in Thrill The World; played zombie kickball; were featured on San Diego Living, Fox 5 Morning News (our favorite!!), as well as many other news programs; entertained Ocean Beach & the Gaslamp Quarter with undead caroling for the holidays; helped promote Zombieland (which made the front page of CNN.com) and The Walking Dead; took over Hollywood for a night; appeared in a music video for Rat City Riot; and partied at the House of Blues with the cast of MTV’S “The Real World” (some of whom walked with us in 2011, while filming the show). We even helped with a successful marriage proposal!

In 2019, we held our thirteenth and final walk during Comic-Con… a tradition we have sadly but finally laid to rest. We are honored to have been considered one of the “ten essential Comic-Con must-sees“, according to the LA Times.

Our walks included zombies of all ages and backgrounds, as we always encouraged participation from anyone who was interested in letting go of reality for a couple hours and having a great time. Our walks had a set of guidelines from the beginning, intended to keep events not only fun, but as safe & pleasant as possible for both participants and the public. The horde was always met with smiles & laughter and intrigued passerby who were curious about why we walked and how they could join in the shambling good times.

Whether we had a dozen zombies or over 2000, our walks were always a screamin’ good time…. and always remember the motto of America’s Finest Undead: THE MORE THE SCARIER!

So, if you’re someone who saw us on the streets of San Diego or heard about us from a friend and were wondering the whys and hows… welcome!
